Stem Cell Treatment

Introduction of new cells to restore a damaged tissue or an organ caused due to an injury, disease or an accident is known as Stem Cell Treatment. Stem cells are biological cells that can be multiplied through mitosis & can be differentiated into specialized cell types. In adults, these specialized stem cells can be used to repair a specific system of the body. Stem cells fall into two categories: Embryonic Stem Cells – that are isolated from the inner cell mass of blastocysts, and Adult Stem Cells – that are found in various tissues. The embryonic stem cells can not only multiply and differentiate into specialized stem cells, but are also capable of maintaining the normal turnover of regenerative organs, including blood, skin, or intestinal tissues.

In normal words, stem cells are specialized cells found in certain parts of the body, viz., umbilical cord, bone marrow, embryo, and sometimes even in teeth. Stem cells in small quantities are extracted and then multiplied/grown by a process called as cell culture. And these cultured cells are capable of growing back a malfunctioned lung, atrophied heart muscle, burnt skin or failing kidney.

According the current research, stem cell implantation can treat cancer, Type 1 diabetes, neurological disorders (Parkinson’s disease, Huntington's disease, etc.), cardiac failure, muscle damage, kidney damage, etc. However, conclusive results are yet to be established regarding its efficacy and long term effects.

Following is the potential list of treatments:

1. Brain Damage: Stroke and traumatic injury that might lead to cell death. In addition, other areas include mental health disorders, such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases

2. Cancer: especially intra-cranial tumors

3. Spinal Cord Injury

4. Cardiac Damage

5. Blood Cell Formation

6. Baldness

7.Missing Teeth

8. Deafness

9. Blindness and Vision Impairment

10. Diabetes

11. Orthopedics

12. Wound Healing
