The surgical modalities include Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE) and Small Incision Cataract Surgery (SICS). Nowadays, Phacoemulsification – a Microincision Cataract Surgery (MICS) – is also used to treat cataract through ultrasound energy. It is not a LASER therapy by any means. The primary objective is to break down the cataract through a very small incision, which heals on its own, much quicker than in traditional surgery.

LASIK: It is a corneal laser surgery for vision correction. Typically, LASIK is not recommended to patientsless than 21 years of age. It is a painless procedure and is done under local anesthesia. The four types of LASIK performed are: Standard LASIK, Customized LASIK, epi-LASIK and i-LASIK.

Laser Treatment: Laser treatment is used to treat disorders of the retina. It is a high-energy beam that is focused on the affected area. It selectively treats the desired area without affecting the surrounding tissues. The absorbed energy creates a microscopic spot to destroy lesions or/and repair damaged tissues. It is pertinent to diabetic retinopathy, retinal veil occlusions, retinal tears and holes.

Intraocular Injections: To deliver a high dose of medicine into the eye for the treatment of retinal diseases. They can be used to treat various indications, including swelling, diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, retinal veil occlusions, macular edema, uveitis, and retinitis.

Vitrectomy: is a surgery to remove the vitreous humor – a clear gel that fills the space between the lens and the retina – from the eye. Conditions that can benefit from vitrectomy include floaters, retinal detachment, macular pucker, diabetic retinopathy and macular holes.
